First and foremost, I would like to wish you a happy new year and I apologize for the delay in answering your email. But, with the backlog of emails, I was unable to be as prompt as I wanted to be. In any case, I am glad that you have taken a decision to get involved. I just went through the hard copies of the emails received and cannot find your initial response to our invitation and therefore will give you a short summary on how one can get involved in the campaign. Of course it is totally up to you how much you want to do and all contributions are appreciated. There are several ways to do that. One of the ways is to simply make a personal contribution. I can send you several titles of needed books and you can order them and get them sent to our stateside address. We have come to an agreement with a courier company who has branches all over the world. They have selected one branch in New York and another in London to act as our book deposit in the and forward book contributions to our office in Amman. Some of those interested have asked to organize mini-book campaigns. This means that you solicit contributions from the community around you. A mini-book campaign can be as small or as large as you want it to be. In other words, it could mean that you solicit book or cash contributions from your immediate surroundings (family, friends, and neighbors), or it can mean that you enlarge the campaign to include the wider community. If you do decide to do a mini-campaign, think about the scope your wish to take on or the numbers of books you think you can handle collecting and let me know and I can give you a few ideas on what other people are doing. I will also send you a list of titles that are needed. As you may know, we have compiled a large list of titles of books needed by Iraqi universities and colleges on an excell database and can forward to you as many tiles as you need, in the field you think that is most suitable for your social environment. Some contributors have chosen to purchase CD's of recent academic journals and periodicals. As you may be aware, Iraq has been prohibited from importing academic journals and periodicals for the last ten years. Therefore, a gift of CD's of recent periodicals in any field would be great. However, there is a focus on medicine or computers. CD's are good because, they are lightweight, but contain a large amount of information. Another option is that you can get students and/or professors to contribute their back dated issues of journals and periodicals in any field or their old textbooks. However, it is very important that the books are within the last five years and in good shape. We are also requesting from all those who get in contact with us to send us their mailing list. Of course, this is entirely up to you and we will totally understand if you do not wish to do so. However, as mentioned earlier, we believe that our campaign is a people campaign and its success is dependent on how many people decide to get involved. Therefore, we are constantly looking for new contacts. I hope this information proves to be helpful. . I will be glad to answer any other questions regarding the book campaign. Please let me know what you decide. Following, for your information, is our bank account information, the US and UK addresses for sending the book contributions, the address of Mariam Appeal for sending the money order or cashiers check, the campaign office in Amman (postal and courier). Thank you in advance for you contribution and help. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best regards. Fawaz Zuriekat
