"At this moment in time, May 13, 2001, Palestinian Mothers cry out for world leader's courage, deep convictions for human life and wisdom of truth to engage in the rights and protection of their children on a day which should eclipse the a mother's capacity for safeguarding the joy and protection of their children in an environment of peace. On Mother's Day, it is a tradition in countries around the world to honor mothers with flowers, gifts, and the endearment of their children. This tradition is no longer the case for Palestinian mothers. To the contrary, instead of receiving flowers in their hands. Palestinian mothers now lay flowers on the gravesites of their children who have not seen a "clear day" of non-violence and lasting peace under an oppressive Israeli occupation. During a silent vigil on Mother's Day, on May 13, 2001, at 10 in the morning, Mothers for Palestinian Children (a Chicago based non-profit organization) will offer an appeal in front of the home of the Honorable US House Speaker Dennis Hastert by calling his attention to the cycle of violence and the killings of innocent Palestinian women, children, in the hope that he will take the necessary actions to protect Palestinian children by securing an authentic peace in the occupied territories of Palestine. As Palestinian mothers for the protection of Palestinian children, they call upon their congresspersons, senators and government officials and the international community to assemble their unwavering commitment and responsible efforts to protect and safeguard the lives of children in an environment devoid of fear, rubber bullets, tear gas, tanks, bombs and missiles. It is time for our elected government officials to plant the seeds of moral responsibility and its expressed values for human life, and reverse the cycle of violence and blame. The right to freedom on earth is a universal human right that has the ability to wipe away the fears and fulfill the common dream of living a normal life. The fate of mothers, children and Palestinian families living under Israeli occupation is the responsibility of all noble people on this planet.. Mothers are the pillars of Palestinian family life.. They are the symbols of security and the foundation of family life. In the occupied territories of Palestine today, Palestinian children now celebrate Mother's Day, by laying flowers on their our mother's tombs. The Mothers for Palestinian Children call upon their local and national government officials and the international community to secure the protection of Palestinian lives on a pathway of peace. On Mother's Day, the gift of safety, protection and peace are the gifts any mother in the world would treasure. END |
