TITLE: Pace Delegation to Visit Chechnya in Mid-January |

A delegation of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) led by Lord Judd will visit Russia in mid-January. Chechnya will be a leg of the tour, Chairman of the Duma International Committee Dmitry Rogozin has told the press. The delegation will come to Moscow on January 13 and go to the Northern Caucasus on the next day till January 17, Rogozin said. The European representatives will meet with chief of the Chechen interim administration Akhmat Kadyrov, Russian Human Rights Ombudsman for Chechnya Vladimir Kalamanov, police and security chiefs in the region, and visit refugee camps. They will draft a report on the situation in Chechnya for the Assembly's January session. The report will be important for the Assembly decision on Russia's status in the forum. The delegation will return to Moscow to meet with the heads of the interior and defense ministries. It will be joined by Latvian Foreign Minister Indulis Berzins, who currently presides in the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers. END |
