It's dark here And cold. Having Chicken noodle comfort food for an evening meal.
It is a dark well-trained evening With the radio news
And did poorly trained soldiers kill civilians In that country far away and somewhat long ago? Aren't poorly trained soldiers civilians with guns?
Well-trained civilians with guns are professional soldiers. A soldier is a euphemism for a civilian (otherwise known as a human being) Trained poorly or otherwise To kill other civilians (sometimes otherwise known as soldiers) Trained poorly or otherwise. A war is thought to go well if our trained civilians Are better trained than theirs Unless We are too much better trained In which case it is considered bad form And we are left with shreds of reportage Of poorly trained civilians Killing less-trained civilians.
Such that our concern is with Reportage And form And training And the tone of the apology
Forgetting the individuals Less than more trained Faces grey Limbs stiff Lives bled out into mud and clay
And I think I had chicken and noodles for dinner. Watching the noodles Noodles in any case Noodles well or poorly trained Because I have an ultimate concern For the destiny of individual noodle particles.
Watching the noodles writhe and twinkle in the dark sky. Drawing constellations Coiling up Spitting stars, planets, moons, Dust Noodle dust in my pocket Noodle dust on my shoes. michael cheeseman ©2001 END |
